The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has issued an amendment order mandating quality control for Leather Safety Boots and Shoes designed for heavy metal industries, conforming to IS 1989 (Part-2): 1986. Effective from August 1, 2024, this order necessitates the use of the Standard Mark and certification from BIS. Manufacturers are granted a transition period until June 30, 2025, to sell previously uncertified stock. BIS will serve as the enforcing authority to ensure compliance, emphasizing safety and standardization in industrial footwear production.
