THIS IS THE RECENT UPDATE FOR ALL EXISTING LICENSE HOLDERS, NEW APPLICANTS, MANUFACTURERS, IMPORTERS, AND PRODUCT SELLERS FROM THE MINISTRY OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY (DEPARTMENT FOR PROMOTION OF INDUSTRY AND INTERNAL TRADE). IT SPECIFICALLY PERTAINS TO THE BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS QUALITY CONTROL ORDER (BIS QCO) FOR THE COOKWARE AND UTENSILS (STAINLESS STEEL COOKWARE).

Ministry of Commerce and Industry in New Delhi issued an order on August 9, 2023, using the powers granted by certain sections of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. This order, known as the Cookware and Utensils (Quality Control) Order, 2023, will be effective six months from its publication in the Official Gazette. Micro Enterprises need to comply twelve months from the publication date, and Small Enterprises need to comply within nine months.
BIS QCO for the cookware and utensils (stainless steel cookware) mandates the use of a Standard Mark for goods or articles listed in the provided table. These items must adhere to the corresponding Indian Standard mentioned in the table and carry the Standard Mark through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards. However BIS QCO for the cookware and utensils (stainless steel cookware) does not apply to goods or articles manufactured domestically for export.
The certifying and enforcing authority for the goods or articles specified in the table is the Bureau. Violation of this order will lead to penalties as per the relevant provisions. BIS QCO for the cookware and utensils (stainless steel cookware) aims to regulate the quality of Cookware and Utensils to ensure they meet established standards for the public's benefit
