The Domestic Gas Stoves for use with Piped Natural Gas (Quality Control) Order, 2023, issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, aims to ensure the quality and safety of gas stoves used in homes. This order comes into effect six months from its publication in the official Gazette, with different timelines for compliance set for Small Enterprises (nine months) and Micro Enterprises (twelve months). According to the BIS QCO for the domestic gas stoves for use with piped natural gas (png) goods or articles specified in the attached Table must conform to the corresponding Indian Standard mentioned in the Table. To comply, these items must bear the Standard Mark, obtained through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) as per Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. BIS QCO for the domestic gas stoves for use with piped natural gas (png) does not apply to goods or articles manufactured domestically for export.

Under this order, all Domestic Gas Stoves designed for use with Piped Natural Gas (PNG) must adhere to the Indian Standard 17153:2019. The Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as the certification and enforcement authority for the goods or articles specified in the Table. Any person found contravening the provisions of this order is subject to penalties under the relevant provisions of the BIS. BIS QCO for the domestic gas stoves for use with piped natural gas (png) is part of the government's efforts to ensure the quality, safety, and standardization of gas stoves used in households, promoting consumer protection and overall industry reliability.
