Dear Viewer,
THIS IS THE RECENT UPDATE FOR ALL EXISTING LICENSE HOLDERS, NEW APPLICANTS, MANUFACTURERS, IMPORTERS, AND PRODUCT SELLERS FROM THE MINISTRY OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY (DEPARTMENT FOR PROMOTION OF INDUSTRY AND INTERNAL TRADE). IT SPECIFICALLY PERTAINS TO THE BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS QUALITY CONTROL ORDER (BIS QCO) FOR THE LABORATORY GLASSWARE (GRADUATED MEASURING CYLINDERS)
1st JANUARY 2023
The Laboratory Glassware (Quality Control) Order, 2023, issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, regulates glassware used in laboratories. Effective six months from its publication, it mandates adherence to specific Indian Standards and requires the display of the Standard Mark, overseen by the Bureau of Indian Standards.
BIS QCO for the laboratory glassware (graduated measuring cylinders) mentions that goods or articles listed in the Table must meet corresponding Indian Standards and carry the Standard Mark under Bureau of Indian Standards' license, excluding items produced domestically for export. The order's enforcement varies, with micro-enterprises facing compliance within twelve months and small enterprises within nine months from the publication date.
Goods or articles falling under the category of Laboratory Glassware are required to comply with the corresponding Indian Standard 878:2008 (Laboratory glassware - Graduated measuring cylinders) according to the BIS QCO for the laboratory glassware (graduated measuring cylinders). The Bureau of Indian Standards serves as the certifying and enforcing authority for the specified goods or articles. Violations of the order incur penalties as outlined in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. The aim is to uphold quality standards in laboratory glassware, fostering safety and reliability in their usage.
(Graduated Measuring Cylinders are special glass tools used in labs to measure liquids precisely. They have marked lines to show the volume, helping scientists get accurate measurements.)
