THIS IS THE RECENT UPDATE FOR ALL EXISTING LICENSE HOLDERS, NEW APPLICANTS, MANUFACTURERS, IMPORTERS, AND PRODUCT SELLERS FROM THE MINISTRY OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY (DEPARTMENT FOR PROMOTION OF INDUSTRY AND INTERNAL TRADE). IT SPECIFICALLY PERTAINS TO THE BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS QUALITY CONTROL ORDER (BIS QCO) FOR ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES FOR THE KITCHEN (SAFETY OF HOUSEHOLD AND SIMILAR ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES PARTICULAR REQUIREMENTS TOASTERS, GRILLS, ROASTERS AND SIMILAR APPLIANCES).

In a recent development, the Government of India, under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, has issued a consequential Order, exercising authority granted by section 16 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. This newly introduced order, named the Electrical Appliances for Kitchen (Quality Control) Order, 2023, is slated to be effective six months from its publication in the Official Gazette.
According to the BIS QCO for electrical appliances for kitchen (safety of household and similar electrical appliances particular requirements - toasters, grills, roasters and similar appliances) it mandates that goods or articles outlined in Table-1 and Table-2 must adhere to specified Indian Standards and carry the Standard Mark, achievable through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards. Notably, exceptions are made for goods produced domestically for export, and there are distinct commencement periods for micro and small enterprises.
As mentioned in the BIS QCO for electrical appliances for kitchen (safety of household and similar electrical appliances particular requirements - toasters, grills, roasters and similar appliances) the Bureau of Indian Standards has been designated as the certifying and enforcing authorities for the stipulated goods or articles in Table-1 and Table-2.
Strict penalties under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, await anyone found contravening the terms of this order. This regulatory move seeks to ensure quality control in the realm of Electrical Appliances for the Kitchen, aligning with established standards, and prioritizing the interests of the public
