In New Delhi, the government, led by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, made an important decision on July 21, 2023. They introduced an order called "The Bolts, Nuts and Fasteners (Quality Control) Order, 2023," which will start affecting things six months after it's officially announced. However, for smaller businesses, they have a bit more time nine months for Small Enterprises and twelve months for Micro Enterprises. This BIS QCO for the bolts, nuts and fasteners high strength structural bolts 3757:1985 says that specific goods listed in a table must meet certain Indian Standards and carry a special Standard Mark obtained through a license from the Bureau. There are some exceptions, though. It doesn't apply to goods made in the country for export, things brought in as part of finished products, items imported by local makers for products intended for export, and things made in the country by small businesses meeting certain criteria.

According to the BIS QCO for the bolts, nuts and fasteners high strength structural bolts 3757:1985 the BIS is given the responsibility to check and make sure the goods or articles listed in the order follow the rules. The main goal of this order is to ensure that bolts, nuts, and fasteners meet certain quality standards, and it is based on the legal powers given by the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. The government wants to make sure that these industrial items are safe, reliable, and meet the standards set for them.
