THIS CONCERNS THE RECENT UPDATE FROM THE MINISTRY OF MINES, GOVERNMENT OF INDIA, REGARDING THE BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS (BIS) QUALITY CONTROL ORDER (QCO) FOR THE GYPSUM-BASED BUILDING MATERIALS (GYPSUM PLASTER BOARDS - COATED/ LAMINATED GYPSUM PLASTER BOARDS)

OVERVIEW

20th NOVEMBER 2023

The Indian Government, under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry's Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, has issued a new rule. This is done using the powers given by the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.Gypsum-based Building Materials (Quality Control) Rule, 2023, emphasis the BIS QCO for the gypsum-based building materials (gypsum plaster boards - coated/laminated gypsum plaster boards). This rule starts six months after being published in the Official Gazette.

According to this rule, things listed in Column (1) of the Table must follow the Indian Standards in Column (2) and carry the Standard Mark. This doesn't apply to goods made in India for export, small businesses, and micro businesses for a certain time.

The BIS QCO for the gypsum-based building materials, including gypsum plaster boards - coated/laminated gypsum plaster boards, underscores the government's commitment to quality control and standardization in the construction industry. The Bureau of Indian Standards is in charge of making sure things listed in the Table follow the rules. If someone doesn't follow this rule, they can be punished under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
