THIS CONCERNS THE RECENT UPDATE FROM THE MINISTRY OF MINES, GOVERNMENT OF INDIA, REGARDING THE BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS (BIS) QUALITY CONTROL ORDER (QCO) FOR GYPSUM-BASED BUILDING MATERIALS, SPECIFICALLY GYPSUM PLASTER BOARDS.

OVERVIEW

20th NOVEMBER 2023

Under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, the Central Government, after consulting the Bureau of Indian Standards, deems it necessary in the public interest to issue the following order. This order, known as the BIS QCO for the gypsum-based building materials (gypsum plaster boards), 2023, will come into effect six months after its publication in the Official Gazette.

That says, Goods or articles listed in Column (1) of the Table must adhere to the corresponding Indian Standards in Column (2) and carry the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards. According to BIS QCO for the gypsum-based building materials (gypsum plaster boards) this rule does not apply to goods intended for export, small enterprises (as defined in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006) until nine months from the publication date, and micro enterprises until twelve months from the publication date.

The Bureau of Indian Standards will serve as the certifying and enforcing authority for the goods or articles specified in the Table. Any person violating this order will face penalties as outlined in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
