On August 9, 2023, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in New Delhi issued an important rule about cookware and utensils. This rule is called the Cookware and Utensils (Quality Control) Order, 2023, and it's made to ensure the things we use for cooking are good and safe.

This BIS QCO for the cookware and utensils (stainless steel sinks for domestic purposes) rule starts working six months from August 9, 2023. It's called the Cookware and Utensils (Quality Control) Order, 2023. Everyone has to follow this rule, but small and really small businesses get a little more time. For really small businesses (Micro Enterprises), the rule starts after twelve months, and for small businesses (Small Enterprises), it starts after nine months from August 9, 2023. The rule says that things like cookware and utensils must have a special mark to show they meet the Indian standards. This mark comes from the Bureau of Indian Standards, and you get it by getting a license. If things are made in India just to send to other countries, this rule doesn't apply. Under this BIS QCO for the cookware and utensils (stainless steel sinks for domestic purposes, all Cookware and Utensils must adhere to specific Indian Standards, including 13983:1994 (Stainless Steel Sinks for Domestic Purposes). The Bureau of Indian Standards is the group in charge of checking and making sure things follow this rule. They are the ones who give the special mark to things that meet the standards.
