THIS IS THE RECENT UPDATE FOR ALL EXISTING LICENSE HOLDERS, NEW APPLICANTS, MANUFACTURERS, IMPORTERS, AND PRODUCT SELLERS FROM THE MINISTRY OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY (DEPARTMENT FOR PROMOTION OF INDUSTRY AND INTERNAL TRADE). IT SPECIFICALLY PERTAINS TO THE BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS QUALITY CONTROL ORDER (BIS QCO) FOR THE CAST IRON PRODUCTS (GREY IRON CASTINGS).

Ministry of commerce and industry (Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade) Issued an order on 24th August 2023, under the authority of sections 16 and 29 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016), the Central Government, in consultation with the Bureau of Indian Standards, deems it necessary in the public interest to enact the Cast Iron Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023. This BIS QCO for the cast iron products (grey iron castings) mandate, known as the Cast Iron Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023, becomes effective six months after its publication in the Official Gazette.
Items outlined in column (1) of the provided Table must adhere to the corresponding Indian Standard noted in column (2) and display the Standard Mark. This requires a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. According to the BIS QCO for the cast iron products (grey iron castings) exceptions exist for goods meant for export and certain timelines apply for small and micro-enterprises, as per the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006).
A per BIS QCO for the cast iron products (grey iron castings) the Bureau of Indian Standards serves as the certifying and enforcing authority for the specified goods or articles outlined in column (1) of the Table. According to the BIS QCO for the cast iron products (grey iron castings) mandates that all cast iron products must adhere to the corresponding Indian Standard 210:2009 (Grey iron castings) any individual contravening this order is subject to punishment as per the provisions outlined in the BIS act.
(Grey iron castings are metal components produced by casting molten iron with a high carbon content into molds, resulting in a material known for its strength, hardness, and durability, widely used in various industrial applications.)
