BIS QCO FOR THE COPPER PRODUCTS (SOLID DRAWN COPPER AND COPPER ALLOY TUBES FOR CONDENSERS AND HEAT EXCHANGERS)

OVERVIEW

 The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, through the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, has issued an important order on October 17, 2023, regarding the quality control of Copper Products. This order, titled "Copper Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023," is based on the authority granted by the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

According to BIS QCO for the copper products (solid drawn copper and copper alloy tubes for condensers and heat exchangers) it has two key points. Firstly, it outlines that the order will officially be called into action six months from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette. Secondly, it mandates the use of a Standard Mark on goods or articles specified in the order. These products must adhere to the corresponding Indian Standard mentioned in the order and bear the Standard Mark obtained through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards.

There are certain exceptions mentioned in the order. Goods or articles manufactured within the country for export purposes are not subject to this order. Additionally, for micro-enterprises, the order becomes effective twelve months from the publication date, and for small enterprises, it becomes effective nine months from the publication date.

The certification and enforcement authority for the specified goods or articles is vested in the Bureau. Violating the provisions of this order can lead to penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
