Dear Viewer,
THIS IS THE RECENT UPDATE FOR ALL EXISTING LICENSE HOLDERS, NEW APPLICANTS, MANUFACTURERS, IMPORTERS, AND PRODUCT SELLERS FROM THE MINISTRY OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY (DEPARTMENT FOR PROMOTION OF INDUSTRY AND INTERNAL TRADE). IT SPECIFICALLY PERTAINS TO THE BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS QUALITY CONTROL ORDER (BIS QCO) FOR THE ELECTRICAL APPLIANCE FOR COMMERCIAL DISPENSING AND VENDING.
8th OCTOBER 2023
The Government of India, specifically the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has issued a new directive in New Delhi, utilizing its authority under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. This directive, titled the Electrical Appliance for Commercial Dispensing and Vending (Quality Control) Order, 2023, aims to uphold the quality and safety standards of appliances utilized for commercial dispensing and vending purposes.
BIS QCO for the electrical appliance for commercial dispensing and vending directive stipulates that items specified in a provided table must adhere to a corresponding Indian Standard mentioned in the same table and must display the Standard Mark, obtained through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards as per the regulations outlined in Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
According to BIS QCO for the electrical appliance for commercial dispensing and vending certain exemptions apply, such as goods produced domestically for export. Additionally, specific timelines for compliance are outlined for micro and small enterprises, with micro enterprises required to adhere to the directive after twelve months and small enterprises after nine months from the date of publication. The Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as the authority responsible for certifying and enforcing compliance with the directive, and contraventions may result in penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. The overarching objective is to ensure that appliances used for commercial dispensing and vending meet established quality standards for the benefit of consumers.
According to this rule, every electrical device made for selling things in shops or vending machines must follow a specific guideline called Indian Standard 302 (Part 2 or Sec 75): 2018.
