THIS IS THE RECENT UPDATE FOR ALL EXISTING LICENSE HOLDERS, NEW APPLICANTS, MANUFACTURERS, IMPORTERS, AND PRODUCT SELLERS FROM THE MINISTRY OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY (DEPARTMENT FOR PROMOTION OF INDUSTRY AND INTERNAL TRADE). IT SPECIFICALLY PERTAINS TO THE BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS QUALITY CONTROL ORDER (BIS QCO) FOR THE FIRE SURVIVAL CABLE (THERMOSETTING INSULATED, FIRE SURVIVAL CABLES FOR WORKING VOLTAGES UPTO AND INCLUDING 1100 V AC AND 1500 V DC).

OVERVIEW

The government has issued an order through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to regulate the quality of Solar DC Cables and Fire Survival Cables. This order, known as the Solar DC Cable and Fire Survival Cable (Quality Control) Order, 2023, will be effective six months from its publication in the Official Gazette.

Goods or articles falling under Fire Survival Cable must comply with the relevant Indian Standard 17505 (Part 1): 2021 (Thermosetting Insulated, Fire Survival Cables for working voltages upto and including 1100 V AC and 1500 V DC).

According to the BIS QCO for the fire survival cable (thermosetting insulated, fire survival cables for working voltages upto and including 1100 v ac and 1500 v dc, products listed in the Table must meet specific quality standards mentioned in the Indian Standard (column 2) and carry the Standard Mark. This mark indicates compliance with the quality standards and is issued under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards. However, the order does not apply to goods made in India for export. The Bureau of Indian Standards is appointed as the authority responsible for certifying and enforcing the standards outlined in the Table. Any individual or entity found violating these standards, as per the order, will be subject to penalties under its provisions.
