BIS QCO FOR THE HINGES (NON-FERROUS METAL BUTT HINGES)

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, through the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, has issued an order on December 8, 2023, concerning the quality control of hinges. This action is taken under the authority provided by section 16 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. The order, titled the "Hinges (Quality Control) Order, 2023," is set to be effective six months from its publication in the Official Gazette.

The order mandates the mandatory use of a Standard Mark on goods or articles listed in a specified table. These items must conform to the corresponding Indian Standard and carry the Standard Mark, obtained through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme-1 of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

It's important to note that this order doesn't apply to goods produced domestically for export purposes. Micro enterprises are granted a twelve-month grace period, while small enterprises have nine months for compliance starting from the publication date.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is assigned the role of being the certifying and enforcing authority for the specified goods or articles. Any violation of this order may result in penalties as per the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
