BIS QCO for the Hinges (Stainless steel butt hinges)

OVERVIEW

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade vide order has issued the BIS QCO for the Hinges (Stainless steel butt hinges) order on 2023. The Bureau of Indian Standards shall be the certifying and enforcing authority for the goods. The Hinges (Stainless steel butt hinges) shall bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards as per Scheme-1 of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

This Indian Standard was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards after the draft finalized by the Builder’s Hardware Sectional Committee had been approved by the Civil Engineering Division Council. However, in the case of mild steel hinges in locations where atmospheric moisture levels are high, the hinges begin to rust. Stainless steel hinges are rust-proof and are therefore especially useful in such areas having high atmospheric moisture content. 

Stainless steel is now abundantly available in our country and is being used for the manufacture of hinges. This standard was first published in 1989 and revised in 1997. Further, unequal flap hinges have been categorized into two types, light weight unequal and heavy-weight unequal flap hinges. In addition, provisions for additional sizes of light weight (narrow) type hinges have also been incorporated.
