UPDATE FROM THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY (DEPARTMENT FOR PROMOTION OF INDUSTRY AND INTERNAL TRADE)

Important information about the Indian Standard that applies to all current license holders, new applications, producers, importers, and product dealers for the Quality Control Order, 2023, addressing key locks for security equipment.

OVERVIEW

8th DECEMBER 2024

 The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, specifically the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, has issued an order on December 8, 2023, named the Safes, Safe Deposit Locker Cabinets, and Key Locks (Quality Control) Order, 2023. This order becomes effective six months after being published in the Official Gazette.

According to the order, goods or articles listed in the table must meet corresponding Indian Standards and bear the Standard Mark. To obtain the Standard Mark, a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards is required, following the regulations of Scheme-1 in Schedule-II.

The order does not apply to goods manufactured domestically for export. Micro enterprises have a twelve-month grace period for compliance, while small enterprises have nine months.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as the authority responsible for certifying and enforcing compliance with the order. Violation of these provisions may lead to penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
