In New Delhi, on December 6, 2023, the government decided to regulate the production of certain woven sacks used for mail sorting, storage, transport, and distribution. This decision, named the Textiles-Polypropylene (PP)/High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Laminated Woven Sacks for Mail Sorting, Storage, Transport, and Distribution (Quality Control) Order, 2023, will become effective 180 days from its publication in the Official Gazette. The regulation applies to specific goods listed in the attached schedule and doesn't include items intended for export. To meet quality standards, these goods must adhere to the corresponding Indian Standard, indicated in the schedule, and display the Standard Mark, obtained through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards. The Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as the certifying and enforcing authority to ensure compliance with these standards. This order is implemented in the public interest, following consultations with the Bureau of Indian Standards, to maintain the quality of woven sacks used in various applications, including mail sorting, storage, transport, and distribution.
