UPDATE FROM THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY (DEPARTMENT FOR PROMOTION OF INDUSTRY AND INTERNAL TRADE)

Ministry of commerce and industry (department for promotion of industry and internal trade) has issued a new rule in New Delhi on the 21st of November, 2023. This rule, titled "Legal Metrology- Material Measures of Length (Quality Control) Order, 2023," will be effective six months from its publication in the Official Gazette. The order applies to goods listed in the table, requiring them to meet specific Indian standards and display the Standard Mark through a license from the Bureau. This rule doesn't apply to goods produced domestically for export. Micro and small enterprises have extended timelines for compliance. The Bureau is the authority for certification and enforcement, and violating the order will result in penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016
