The Government of India, under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers (Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals), has issued an Order known as the Polypropylene (PP) Materials for Moulding and Extrusion (Quality Control) Order, 2023. This directive, empowered by the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, aims to ensure quality and public safety in the use of Polypropylene materials.

Effective after one hundred and eighty days from its publication in the Official Gazette, this order applies to specific goods or articles detailed in the provided Table. BIS QCO for the polypropylene (pp) does not extend to goods or articles intended for export.

To adhere to standards and guarantee quality, goods or articles listed in the specified table must comply with the corresponding Indian Standard mentioned in column (2) and bear the Standard Mark. This mark is granted under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, following the regulations outlined in Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as the certifying and enforcing authority for goods or articles listed in the specified table. Any individual found contravening the provisions of this order will be subject to penalties as per the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

BIS QCO for the polypropylene (pp) reflects the government's commitment to maintaining quality standards in the production and use of Polypropylene materials, safeguarding public interests, and promoting compliance with established norms for the well-being of consumers and the industry at large.
