The Indian government, through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has issued an order to regulate the quality of sports goods. This order, titled the Sports Goods (Quality Control) Order, 2023, is set to be effective six months from its publication in the official Gazette.

BIS QCO for the sports goods (rings used in gymnastics) emphasizes the compulsory use of a Standard Mark on sports goods listed in Table-1 and Table-2. These goods must comply with the corresponding Indian Standard mentioned in the respective tables. The Standard Mark is granted under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, as outlined in Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. However, this order does not apply to goods produced domestically for export. Additionally, micro and small enterprises, as per the definitions in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, are exempt from the order's application until twelve months from its publication. Certain goods specified in Table-2 have an extended exemption period of eighteen months.

Enterprises registered under the "Udyam portal" of the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, with limited investment and turnover, are also exempt from implementing this order. The certification and enforcement of the order's standards are entrusted to the Bureau of Indian Standards. Non-compliance with the provisions of this order may result in penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. The Sports Goods (Quality Control) Order, 2023, aims to ensure the quality of sports goods by mandating the use of a Standard Mark and providing specific exemptions and timelines for compliance based on enterprise size and nature. The Bureau of Indian Standards plays a crucial role in overseeing and enforcing these standards.

(Sports Goods (Rings Used in Gymnastics)" refers to equipment specifically designed for gymnastic activities, specifically gymnastic rings. These rings are suspended from a structure, allowing gymnasts to perform various strength and flexibility exercises, as well as dynamic routines.)
