BIS QCO FOR THE SPORTS GOODS (SHUTTLECOCKS)

The Indian government, through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has issued the Sports Goods (Quality Control) Order, 2023, with the aim of ensuring the quality of sports-related items. This order, effective six months from its official Gazette publication, mandates the use of a Standard Mark on specified goods, aligning with Indian Standards to promote quality assurance. Exemptions are granted for goods manufactured for export, micro and small enterprises for twelve months, and certain articles for eighteen months from the order's publication. Additionally, items produced by enterprises registered under the "Udyam portal" with specific financial criteria are exempted.

BIS QCO for the sports goods (shuttlecocks) states that sports goods must meet the Indian Standard 415:2022 (Shuttlecocks). The Bureau of Indian Standards is assigned the role of certifying and enforcing compliance with the specified standards for the mentioned goods. It is important to note that this order does not apply to Barbell sets conforming to Indian Standard 4630:2022 until eighteen months after the notification date.

The government emphasizes the need for adherence to these standards to ensure the quality and safety of sports goods in the country as per BIS QCO for the sports goods (shuttlecocks).

(Shuttlecocks are lightweight projectiles used in badminton, consisting of feathers or a synthetic alternative arranged in a conical shape and attached to a cork base.)
