THIS IS THE RECENT UPDATE FOR ALL EXISTING LICENSE HOLDERS, NEW APPLICANTS, MANUFACTURERS, IMPORTERS, AND PRODUCT SELLERS FROM THE MINISTRY OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY (DEPARTMENT FOR PROMOTION OF INDUSTRY AND INTERNAL TRADE). IT SPECIFICALLY PERTAINS TO THE BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS QUALITY CONTROL ORDER (BIS QCO) FOR THE SPORTS GOODS (SOFT BALLS).

The Indian Government, through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has issued an order known as the "Sports Goods (Quality Control) Order, 2023" in New Delhi. This order aims to ensure the quality of sports goods in the country. This order is officially named the Sports Goods (Quality Control) Order, 2023. It becomes effective six months after being published in the official Gazette.
Goods or items listed in Table-1 and Table-2 must meet the specified Indian Standard mentioned in the respective columns. They should bear the Standard Mark, indicating compliance, obtained through a license from the Bureau as per Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
BIS QCO for the sports goods (soft balls) doesn't apply to goods produced domestically for export purposes. Micro and small enterprises, as defined in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, are exempt until twelve months from the publication date. Goods or articles specified in Table-2 are exempt until eighteen months from the publication date.
Additionally, enterprises registered under the "Udyam portal" with an investment not exceeding twenty-five lakh rupees and a turnover not exceeding two crore rupees in the previous financial year, as certified by a Chartered Accountant, are exempt.
As mentioned in the BIS QCO for the sports goods (soft balls) goods must meet the Indian Standard 5460:2022 (Soft balls) The Bureau of Indian Standards is responsible for certifying and enforcing compliance for the goods or articles listed in Table-1 and Table-2.
BIS QCO for the sports goods (soft balls) ensures that sports goods meet specific quality standards and provides certain exemptions based on the nature of production, scale, and export status. Violating the provisions of this order can result in penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
