BIS QCO FOR THE STEEL AND STEEL PRODUCTS

The Ministry of Steel in the Government of India has a new rule. They want all steel importers to apply and get clarification through the QCO Portal for each shipment of imported steel, especially under the BIS QCO for the Steel and Steel Products.

The Ministry of Steel made a Quality Control Order (QCO) under the BIS Act, 2016. This order says that all imported steel must have a BIS license, a Mill Test Certificate, and be marked with ISI and BIS license numbers.

To make things smooth, the Ministry set up a Technical Committee in October 2018. This committee checks if the steel without BIS certification follows the Steel QCO. Now, they have a portal called TCQCO Portal (https://tc-qco.steel.gov.in/tc-qco) where importers must apply and get clarification for every steel shipment without BIS certification, especially under the BIS QCO for the Steel and Steel Products.

Remember, for each shipment, importers need to submit a fresh application through the TCQCO portal. The Ministry of Steel gives clarification for every single shipment.
