THIS IS THE RECENT UPDATE FOR ALL EXISTING LICENSE HOLDERS, NEW APPLICANTS, MANUFACTURERS, IMPORTERS, AND PRODUCT SELLERS FROM THE MINISTRY OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY (DEPARTMENT FOR PROMOTION OF INDUSTRY AND INTERNAL TRADE). IT SPECIFICALLY PERTAINS TO THE BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS QUALITY CONTROL ORDER (BIS QCO) FOR THE WELDING RODS AND ELECTRODES (WELDING RODS AND BARE ELECTRODES FOR GAS SHIELDED ARC WELDING OF STRUCTURAL STEEL) IS 6419:1996

OVERVIEW

14th JULY 2023

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, through the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, has issued a significant order on July 14, 2023, known as The Welding Rods and Electrodes (Quality Control) Order, 2023.

This order, released by the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, aims to ensure the quality control of welding rods and electrodes.

It comes into force six months from the date of publication, with specific timelines for Small and Micro Enterprises.

The order mandates the compulsory use of Standard Marks, linking goods to corresponding Indian Standards and requiring a license from the Bureau. Certain exemptions are provided for domestically manufactured goods meant for export and those produced by enterprises registered under the "Udyam portal" of the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises. The Bureau is designated as the certifying and enforcing authority for the specified goods. Violation of this order can result in penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
