Dear Viewer,
THIS CONCERNS THE RECENT UPDATE FROM THE MINISTRY OF MINES, GOVERNMENT OF INDIA, REGARDING THE BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS (BIS) QUALITY CONTROL ORDER (QCO) FOR THE GYPSUM-BASED BUILDING MATERIALS (GYPSUM PLASTER BOARDS GLASS FIBRE REINFORCED GYPSUM PANELS).
20th NOVEMBER 2023
The Government of India, through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry's Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, has issued an order exercising powers granted by the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. Following consultations with the Bureau of Indian Standards, the government deems it necessary in the public interest to implement the Gypsum-based Building Materials (Quality Control) Order, 2023, focusing on the BIS QCO for the gypsum-based building materials (gypsum plaster boards, glass fibre reinforced gypsum panels).
This order, set to take effect six months after publication in the Official Gazette, mandates that goods listed in Column (1) of the Table adhere to corresponding Indian Standards in Column (2) and bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards.
Notably, exceptions are made for domestically manufactured goods meant for export, and small and micro enterprises, providing them a grace period of nine months and twelve months, respectively. The Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as the authority responsible for certifying and enforcing compliance with the specified standards according to the BIS QCO for the gypsum-based building materials (gypsum plaster boards glass fibre reinforced gypsum panels),
Those found contravening this order will be subject to penalties outlined in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. The BIS QCO for the gypsum-based building materials, including gypsum plaster boards and glass fibre reinforced gypsum panels, underscores the government's commitment to quality control and standardization in the construction industry.
