BIS QCO FOR THE COPPER PRODUCTS (SOLID DRAWN COPPER TUBES FOR GENERAL ENGINEERING PURPOSES)

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, has issued a new order on October 17, 2023. This order, known as the Copper Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023, is established using the authority provided by the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

The main points of this order are as follows. Firstly, it officially gets into action six months after being published in the Official Gazette. Secondly, it mandates the use of a Standard Mark on specified goods or articles, ensuring they meet the corresponding Indian Standard mentioned in the order. To obtain this Standard Mark, a license from the Bureau is required under Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

According to BIS QCO for the copper products (solid drawn copper tubes for general engineering purposes) order include goods or articles produced within the country for export purposes. Micro-enterprises need to comply with the order twelve months from the publication date, and small enterprises need to comply within nine months from the publication date.

The certification and enforcement authority for the specified goods or articles is entrusted to the Bureau. Anyone violating the provisions of this order may face penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
