BIS QCO FOR THE CAST IRON PRODUCTS (VERTICALLY CAST-IRON PRESSURE PIPES FOR WATER, GAS AND SEWAGE)

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has issued an order in New Delhi on 24th August 2023, exercising authority granted by sections 16 and 29 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). Following consultations with the Bureau of Indian Standards, the Central Government deems it necessary in the public interest to enact the Cast Iron Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023.

This order, named BIS QCO for the cast iron products (vertically cast-iron pressure pipes for water, gas and sewage), effective six months after its publication in the Official Gazette, mandates the use of a Standard Mark for items specified in the attached Table, ensuring compliance with corresponding Indian Standards and requiring a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards. According to the BIS QCO for the cast iron products (vertically cast-iron pressure pipes for water, gas and sewage) exemptions are provided for goods or articles manufactured domestically for export, with specific timelines for small and micro-enterprises under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006).

BIS QCO for the cast iron products (vertically cast-iron pressure pipes for water, gas and sewage) mandates that all cast iron products must adhere to the corresponding Indian Standard 1537:1976 (Vertically cast-iron pressure pipes for water, gas and sewage).

As per BIS QCO for the cast iron products (vertically cast-iron pressure pipes for water, gas and sewage) the Bureau of Indian Standards is appointed as the certifying and enforcing authority for the designated items, and penalties for violations are stipulated in accordance with the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act.
