The Bolts, Nuts, and Fasteners (Quality Control) Order, 2023, issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is a significant step towards ensuring product quality and standardization in the manufacturing sector. Coming into effect from the 21st of July, 2023, this order sets out clear guidelines for the production and use of bolts, nuts, and fasteners, with a particular focus on promoting quality in the industry.

One noteworthy aspect according to the BIS QCO for the bolts, nuts and fasteners hexagon head bolts, screws and nuts of product grade c - hexagon nuts (size range m5 to m64) is the consideration for Small and Micro Enterprises, as defined by the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006. The order allows a phased implementation, providing Nine months for Small Enterprises and Twelve months for Micro Enterprises from the date of publication. This demonstrates a thoughtful approach, recognizing the diverse scale of businesses and providing them with ample time for compliance.

The mandatory use of the Standard Mark, as specified in the BIS QCO for the bolts, nuts and fasteners hexagon head bolts, screws and nuts of product grade c - hexagon nuts (size range m5 to m64), ensures that the goods or articles adhere to the corresponding Indian Standards, emphasizing the importance of quality assurance. The Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as the certifying and enforcing authority, underlining the commitment to maintaining and enforcing these quality standards.
