MINISTRY OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY NOTIFIES SMART METERS (QUALITY CONTROL) ORDER, 2023
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, has issued a new notification regarding the Smart Meters (Quality Control) Order, 2023.
This order will be in effect from six months after the date of its publication. As per the order, all goods or articles listed in the table must comply with the corresponding Indian Standards mentioned in the table. They are required to bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, in accordance with the Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
The Bureau of Indian Standards will serve as the certifying and enforcing authority for the goods or articles listed in the table. It is important to note that this order does not apply to goods or articles manufactured domestically for the purpose of export. Any individual or entity found to be violating the provisions of this order will be subject to penalties in accordance with the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

Please note that the latest version of Indian Standards, including the amendments issued thereof, as notified by the Bureau of Indian Standards from time to time, will be applicable from the date of such notification.
