Cattle feeds are the food or supplements given to cattle, including cows, buffaloes, bullocks, etc. These supplements fulfill the dietary needs and aid in the growth, health, and productivity of cattle. A cattle feed comes in different forms, such as grains, forages, protein-rich supplements, and mineral blends. It is prepared in a way that provides the right combination of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals essential for the well-being and optimal performance of the animals.
Cattle feeds fall under the purview of IS 2052: 2009. This standard outlines the specific requirements and provides the sampling and testing methods for cattle feeds designed for cattle, buffaloes, and working bullocks.
Note: A laboratory must be adequately maintained, in which several tests will be carried out according to methods specified in the standard.
1. Compound feed bags must be marked with the information required by the standard.
2. Compound feed bags must be packaged and marked in compliance with IS 2052:2009, and each bag must bear the ISI certification mark.
3. To use a standard mark, the Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards [1] (ISI Mark). The BIS issues a license following a satisfactory evaluation of the production process, quality control and testing capabilities, and manufacturing infrastructure.
