BIS CERTIFICATION FOR GALVANIZING POTS IS 8917: 1978

This standard specifies the steel requirements for manufacturing steel pots for holding molten zinc for the hot-dip galvanizing process.
REQUIREMENTS FOR IS 8917: 1978
1.This steel must be guaranteed wieldable because the pots are fabricated by welding.
2.The general requirements for the supply of steel plates for galvanizing pots must be in accordance with IS 1387:1967.
3.The steel shall be produced using an open hearth, an electric, basic oxygen, or a combination of these processes.
4.Steel must be fine-grained and killed with Al, Ti, Zr, or any other refiner.
5.All finished steel must be well and cleanly rolled to the specified dimensions.
6.Cracks, surface flaws, laminations, rough/jagged and imperfect edges, and all other harmful defects must be absent from the finished material.
7.Depending on the requirements agreed upon between the purchaser and the manufacturer, the steel shall be supplied as-rolled or in the normalized condition.
8.Manufacturers should check the grain size of the steel plate on a regular basis, as recommended in standard, and the grain size should be five or finer.
9.Every plate with a 10 mm or greater thickness must be stamped with the cast number.
10.The manufacturer's name and/or trade-mark must be painted or punched in a prominent location on the plate.
11.The IS1 Certification Mark may also be applied to the material.
12.The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark).
Tests shall be carried out in accordance with the method prescribed.
