INTRODUCTION
Hydrogen peroxide is primarily used in industry as an oxidizing and bleaching agent, and also as disinfectant. It is a colorless and odorless liquid. The pattern of its use has shifted over time, and hydrogen peroxide is now increasingly used by other industries, including chemicals, electronics, paper, cosmetics, and so on. These industries may have additional requirements, which are addressed in this standard.
To ensure the product quality of hydrogen peroxide, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has made it mandatory for manufacturers to undergo BIS registration and obtain the BIS ISI mark before selling it in the market. Manufacturers can use the ISI Mark on their products only after obtaining a license from BIS that is granted after BIS registration. The presence of the ISI mark on a product indicates that it complies with BIS's stringent quality standards
IS 2080:1980 covers Stabilized Hydrogen Peroxide. That describes the requirements and text to check and maintain the quality of product.
REQUIREMENTS FOR IS 2080:1980
1. This standard specifies the requirements as well as the sampling and testing methods for stabilized hydrogen peroxide.
2. The material shall be classified into four grades as follows:
Grade 1 - of nominal strength 50.0% by mass
Grade 2 - of nominal strength 35.0% by mass
Grade 3 - of nominal strength 6.0% by mass
Grade 4 - of nominal strength 3.0% by mass
3. The material must be in the form of clear, colorless liquid that is free of suspended impurities and dust particles.
4. When tested according to the method prescribed, the material's strength shall be not less than 50.0% (m/m for Grade 1, 35.0% (m/m) for Grade 2, 6.0% (m/m) for Grade 3, and 3.0% (m/m) for Grade 4.
5. The material must also meet the requirements of the standard.
6. Packing and Marking shall be done as per IS 2080:1980.
7. The material must be packed in bottles or carboys as agreed upon by the purchaser and supplier.
8. All containers used to store the material must be dry and clean.
9. The containers must bear the information as specified in this standard in a legible and indelible manner.
10. The Standard Mark (ISI Mark) shall be marked on the product's container provided that the material so marked meets all requirements of the specification.
11. To use a standard mark (ISI Mark), the manufacturer must obtain a BIS licence from the Bureau of Indian Standards.

The BIS registration provides the following benefits:
1. Increase sales: BIS-registered products are more likely to be of higher quality and attract more customers.
2. Reduce the amount of money spent on quality maintenance: Upon getting certification, there's no need to follow separate quality guidelines for products.
3. Enhance product credibility and reduce environmental risk: BIS-certified items are genuine and trustworthy because they work really well and last a long time.
4. Ensure the highest level of quality and dependability: The presence of a BIS registration number implies that the product is of high quality and dependability.
5. Ensure the organization’s expansion: BIS certification boosts your product’s reputation, resulting in significant growth and market exposure.
Hydrogen peroxide has been included in the mandatory ISI Certification Scheme under the IS 2080:1980 standard. Manufacturers cannot import, export, or sell this product in the Indian consumer market without the ISI Mark imprinted.
