REQUIREMENTS FOR IS 6603:2001

1.     The general requirements for material supply shall be in accordance with IS 8910. Unless otherwise agreed, the processes used in the manufacture of the steel and the product are left to the manufacturer's discretion. Bars and flats shall be manufactured from ingots or continuously cast slabs/blooms by rolling, hammering, pressing, or extrusion. Bars and lids must be free of harmful internal and surface defects.

2.     Steel can be annealed, hardened, tempered, or supplied in a softened state.

3.     Marking shall be done in accordance with IS 6603:2001. The Standard Mark (ISI Mark) may also be applied to the material.

4.     The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark).

5.     The Bureau grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, production process, and quality control and testing capabilities during a visit to its manufacturing premises.
