REQUIREMENTS FOR IS 11169 (Part 2): 1989

1.      This standard specifies the specifications for wrought stainless steels intended for cold heading and delivered as wires, wire rods, or bars. It is applicable to stainless steels that are ferrite, martensitic, or austenitic.

2.     General requirements for material supply must be in accordance with applicable standards.

3.     The standard requires steel to be ordered and delivered based on chemical composition or chemical composition and mechanical properties.

4.     Unless otherwise specified in the order, the processes used to manufacture the steel are at the discretion of the manufacturer.

5.     The chemical composition must conform to the requirements of the standard. The material must be free of potentially harmful internal and surface flaws.

6.     Mechanical properties of steel must meet standard requirements.

7.     Steel bars must be properly bundled.

8.     Each bundle must have a metal tag with the manufacturer's name or trademark, steel grade, cast number, or any other identification mark.

9.     A standard mark (ISI Mark) may also be applied to the product.

10.  The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark).
