This standard specifies the specifications for stainless steel wire rods. This standard does not apply to wire rods used to make welding electrodes. IS 8910:1978 specifies the general requirements for material supply. Unless otherwise agreed in the order, the process used to manufacture the steel and the product is left to the manufacturer's discretion.

REQUIREMENTS FOR IS 6527:1995

1.     Each ingot must undergo sufficient reduction and discard to ensure that it is free of pipe, harmful segregation, and order defects. The surface of the wire rod must be smooth and free of harmful surface defects.

2.     End rings should be trimmed sufficiently to remove fins.

3.     Each coil of wire rod must be marked with the manufacturer's name, trademark, cast number, and steel designation.

4.     The Standard Mark (ISI Mark) may also be applied to the material.

5.     The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark).
