1. The wire must be cold drawn from steel produced using an open hearth, an electric duplex, basic oxygen, or a combination of these processes.
2. All finished wires must be well and cleanly drawn to the specified dimensions.
3. The surface of the wire must be clean, uniform, smooth, and free of harmful defects such as pit marks, pores, scratches, longitudinal and transverse cracks, and so on, which are detrimental to the end-use of the product.
4. Packing and marking shall be done as per IS 9962:1981.
5. Each coil of wires must be properly bound, fastened, and oiled before wrapping in polythene and jute.
6. Each coil of wire must be labelled with the wire size, lot number, finish, and the name of the manufacturer or his trademark or any other mark required by the purchaser.
7. The material could also be marked with a standard mark (ISI Mark).
8. Manufacturers must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark).
