The following types of reeds are covered:

·       All metal reeds used in cotton and silk looms

·       All leasing metal reeds for use in cotton and silk wrapping machines.

REQUIREMENTS FOR IS 8566:1977

1.     The general requirements related to material supply shall comply with IS 1387:1967.

2.     Steel produced by the open hearth, electric, duplex, basic oxygen, or a combination of these processes shall be used to make the wire.

3.     The wire must be drawn to the necessary size in a neat and orderly manner, and it must be free from surface defects.

4.     Steel wire for reed must be supplied in the following sizes: 0.80, 0.85, 0.90, 1.00, 1.15, 1.20, 1.25, 1.30, 1.35, and 1.40.

5.     Each wire coil must be marked with the information as specified in the standard, and the product may also be labelled with a standard mark (ISI Mark).

6.      The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark).

The following test shall be carried out in accordance with the method prescribed.
