BIS CERTIFICATION FOR POLYESTER STAPLE FIBRES IS 17263: 2019

Product Description

BIS CERTIFICATION FOR POLYESTER STAPLE FIBRES IS 17263: 2019

Introduction

Polyester staple fibers are a type of synthetic textile material made from polyester, a versatile and durable synthetic polymer. These fibers are manufactured by melting and then extruding polyester through tiny holes to create long, thin strands. These strands are then cut into shorter lengths, typically ranging from a few millimeters to a few centimeters.

PSF is renowned for its exceptional qualities, including high strength, resistance to wrinkles, and the ability to retain color well, making it a popular choice in the textile industry. It is used in various applications, including clothing, home furnishings, industrial fabrics, and more.

One of its notable characteristics is its versatility; PSF can be made with different cross-sections, offering various aesthetic and functional properties. It can be solid or hollow, coarse or fine, and even engineered for specific purposes like antimicrobial or flame-retardant fibers.

The manufacturer has to say what kind of staple fiber they're making, and they can do it in these ways:

1.     Based on Shape: They can describe it by looking at how it looks when you cut it in half. Is it round or does it have a special shape?

2.     Based on Inside Space: They can say if the fiber is solid all the way through or if it has empty space inside.

3.     Based on Mixing Different Fibers: If they're using more than one type of fiber together, they can tell us how they're mixed, like if one is wrapped around the other.

4.     Based on How Thick or Thin it is: They can use words like "coarse" (thick), "medium-fine," "fine," "micro," or "super-micro" to say how thick or thin the fiber is.

IS 17263:2019 is a set of rules that talk about polyester staple fibers (PSF). These fibers are used in making different things like clothes and other products. Before these rules became official, a group called the Textile Division Council looked at them and said they were good. They got help from another team called the Man-Made Fibres, Cotton, and Their Products Sectional Committee to make sure everything was right. These rules explain what kinds of PSF can be used for different purposes, like making clothes or antimicrobial fibers. However, it doesn't include fibers used in building materials like cement.

REQUIREMENTS FOR IS 17263:2019

1. The polyester fibers need to be checked using tests described in IS 667 and by looking at them closely under a microscope to make sure they're really polyester.

2. They also have to meet certain rules about how they should behave and what they should be made of. For example, when they check virgin polyester fibers (brand new ones), they must not have any isophthalic acid in them when tested in a specific way.

3. These fibers should also not have any major problems or defects.

4.  If the polyester fibers follow all these rules, they can get certified under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, and the related rules.

5. They can even have a special mark (ISI Mark) to show they are good quality.

6.  But to use that mark, the manufacturer needs to get permission from the Bureau of Indian Standards.

TESTS

The test shall be carried out to determine the following according to the method specified.

· Test for Shrinkage of single polyester staple fiber

· Test for crimp properties of PSF and fibre fill/nonwoven fibres

· Test for measurement of percent silicone on fibre

· Moisture content test

· Phosphorus content test

· Antimony content in polyester

· The hollowness of hollow fibre

· Sinking time for spunlace fibre

· Colour strength of the dope dyed product

· Titanium dioxide in polymer

Benefits of BIS Certification

Getting BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) registration for your products has some really good advantages:

1.     More Sales: When your products have BIS registration, it means they're likely to be better quality. Customers trust this, so you'll probably sell more.

2.     Saves Money on Quality: Once you get the certification, you don't need to worry about extra quality rules because your products are already known to be good.

3.     Builds Trust and Less Risk: BIS-certified items are real and reliable. They work well and last a long time, so there's less chance of problems or harming the environment.

4.     High Quality Guaranteed: When a product has a BIS registration number, it's a sign that it's top-quality and trustworthy.

5.     Helps Your Business Grow: BIS certification makes your product's reputation better, which can lead to more growth and getting noticed in the market. It's good for expanding your business.

CONCLUSION

Polyester staple fibers has been included in the mandatory ISI Certification Scheme under the IS 17263:2019 standard. Manufacturers cannot import, export, or sell this product in the Indian consumer market without the ISI Mark.
