Portland Pozzolana Cement is a special type of cement used in construction. It's made by mixing regular cement with materials like fly ash or volcanic ash. PPC is great because it makes buildings stronger and lasts longer. When you mix PPC with water, it reacts and becomes even tougher, so it can resist things like chemicals and water. This helps in making sturdy buildings and structures. PPC is also good for the environment because it uses materials that would otherwise be wasted, reduces pollution, and saves natural resources. So, it's a smart choice for construction that's strong and eco-friendly.
This rule is about a type of cement called Portland pozzolana cement - fly ash pozzolana. It talks about how this cement should be made and what it should be like. Before this rule became official, a group called the Cement and Concrete Sectional Committee looked at it and said it's good. Then, the Civil Engineering Division Council approved it. This rule tells us what chemicals should be in the cement and how strong and fine it should be. It also says how the cement should be stored to keep it in good condition.
1. Fly ash should make up at least 15% but no more than 35% of the total weight of Portland pozzolana cement, as per the standard.
2. Pozzolana, like fly ash, doesn't have cement-like properties by itself, but when it's finely ground and mixed with water, it reacts with calcium hydroxide to create cement-like compounds.
3. Portland-pozzolana cement must follow the chemical and physical rules mentioned in the standard.
4. A lab should be maintained to test the cement using the methods described in the standard.
5. The manufacturer has to prove that their cement meets these standards.
6. Each bag or drum of Portland Pozzolana Cement with fly ash, or the label on it, should have the BIS Standard Mark (ISI Mark) if it meets the requirements.
7. The marking should be done following IS 1489 (Part 1).
8. To use the ISI Mark, the manufacturer needs to get permission (a BIS license) from the Bureau of Indian Standards.
