Product Description



Portland slag cement, commonly known as PSC, is a type of blended cement used in construction. It's made by combining Portland cement clinker, gypsum, and granulated blast furnace slag (a byproduct of the iron and steel industry) in specific proportions. These ingredients are ground together to create a fine powder.

PSC offers several advantages over regular Portland cement. First, it's more sustainable because it utilizes industrial waste (blast furnace slag), reducing the environmental impact of cement production. Second, PSC has improved durability, reduced heat of hydration, and higher resistance to sulfate and chloride attacks, making it ideal for infrastructure projects, marine structures, and areas with harsh environmental conditions.

The slag in PSC contributes to its unique properties, enhancing workability and long-term strength. Its slower rate of strength gain compared to ordinary Portland cement allows for better control during construction.

Portland slag cement is a type of cement that has certain rules and guidelines set for it in a document called IS 455:2015.The Bureau of Indian Standards officially accepted these rules on October 30, 2015, after they were reviewed and approved by a group called the Civil Engineering Division Council. This standard, IS 455:2015, tells us how Portland slag cement should be made and what chemical and physical qualities it should have.

Basically, it explains how this specific type of cement should be manufactured to ensure it meets certain quality standards. This helps in making sure that the cement is reliable and safe for use in construction and other applications.

REQUIREMENTS FOR Portland slag cement  IS 455:2015

1. Portland slag cement shall be made by mixing together three main ingredients: Portland cement clinker, gypsum, and granulated slag in the right amounts.

2. These ingredients are mixed very well by grinding them together. Alternatively, one can grind each of these ingredients separately and then mix them thoroughly.

3. The result is a type of cement that has physical properties similar to regular Portland cement.

4. To be called "Portland slag cement," it must have at least 25% but no more than 65% of granulated slag in it.

5. The Portland cement clinker used in making this cement should meet certain chemical requirements, as specified in IS 269:2015 for 33-grade ordinary Portland cement.

6. The physical properties of the final Portland slag cement must also meet certain standards outlined in IS 455:2015.

7. To make sure the cement is of good quality, tests need to be done in a properly maintained laboratory following the methods mentioned in the standard.

8. If a manufacturer wants to sell Portland slag cement with the BIS Standard Mark (ISI Mark) on the bag or container, they need to prove that their product meets these standards. This marking should follow the rules set in IS 455:2015.

9. The manufacturer must have a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use the ISI Mark.
