INTRODUCTION
Electric radiators (room heaters) are an energy-efficient way to heat a home. Electric radiators include a thermodynamic fluid such as oil, which converts into heat energy when used with electricity. Each electric radiator is equipped with a thermostat that regulates the energy required to keep the home at the appropriate temperature.
It is classified into the following two groups:
Group I - Up to and including 1000 W
Group II – Above 1000 W
The Government of India's Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has adopted the Indian Standard IS 302 (Part 2/Sec 30) for all types of Room Heaters. Before being sold in the Indian Market, Room Heaters must undergo testing and certification according to the specific Indian Standard set by the government. These products need to be tested in labs approved by BIS and subsequently certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards (Govt. of India).
This standard specifies the safety of electric radiators (room heaters) used in households and for similar purposes, with rated voltages of not more than 250 V for single-phase appliances and 415 V for other appliances. The following appliances are examples of those that fall under the scope of this standard:
· Convector heaters
· Fan heaters
· Heaters for use in greenhouses
· Liquid filled radiators
· Panel heaters
· Radiant heaters
· Tubular heaters
This standard addresses the safety requirements for the electric radiator (room heaters). However, this standard does not address the performance requirements, which are addressed in a separate standard.
The following test shall be carried out for room heaters.
· Earth continuity test
· Electric strength test
· Functional test
· Protection against access to live parts
· Provision for Earthing
· Power input and current
· Heating
· Moisture resistance
· Leakage current and electric strength
· Transient overvoltage
· Mechanical strength and so on
Note: foreign applications will be submitted through an offline process only. we can only check the grant of CML no. on the BIS portal for foreign application
Room heaters have been included in the mandatory ISI Certification Scheme under the IS 302 (Part 2/Sec 30) standard. Manufacturers cannot import, export, or sell this product in the Indian consumer market without the ISI Mark imprinted.
