Unplasticized polyvinyl chloride (UPVC) single wall corrugated pipes for drainage are covered under IS 9271:2004.The BIS adopted this Indian standard after the draft finalized by the plastic piping system sectional committee was approved by the civil engineering division council.This standard specifies the requirements and testing methods for unplasticized PVC corrugated perforated/non-perforated pipes intended for use in under drainage of surface and subsurface land/farms, canals, highways, roads, foundations, construction sites, interceptor drainage in field/farms, intercepting canal seepage, and under drainage of lined canals.

REQUIREMENTS FOR IS 9271:2004

1.     The pipes shall be made of material primarily composed of polyvinyl chloride conforming to IS 10151, to which only those additives necessary to facilitate the manufacture of sound pipes with surface finish, mechanical strength, and suitability for use may be added.

2.     The composition shall be based on PVC resin having a K-value of or greater when tested in accordance with IS 4669.

3.     Each Pipe shall be marked with the following:

·       Identification and source of manufacture;

·       Nominal outside diameter of the Pipe, in mm;

·       Perforated / Non-perforated;

·       Length, in m; and

·       Batch number or lot number

4.      Each Pipe may also be marked with the Standard Mark (ISI Mark).

5.      The manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark).

·       Elongation Test

·       Bending Test
