Supersulphated cement is a kind of hydraulic cement formed by combining various raw materials such as calcium sulphoaluminate clinker, gypsum, limestone, and so on as well as other ingredients. Because of its specific composition and qualities, this cement differs from typical Portland cement (OPC).This cement has quick setting and hardening qualities, making it ideal for speedy construction. Its long-term durability makes it an excellent choice for quick repairs, grouting, shotcrete, and precast concrete.
To ensure the product quality of supersulphated cement, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has made it mandatory for manufacturers to undergo BIS registration and obtain the BIS ISI mark before selling it in the market. Manufacturers can use the ISI Mark on their products only after obtaining a license from BIS that is granted after BIS registration. The presence of the ISI mark on a product indicates that it complies with BIS's stringent quality standards.
IS 6909:1990 covers supersulphated Cement. This standard specifies the requirements for the composition, production, and testing of supersulphated cement. Super-sulfated cement has various advantages over ordinary Portland cement, including low hydration heat evolution, excellent sulphate resistance, and the use of less clinker and more gypsum.
1. Supersulphated cement shall be made by intergrinding or intimately blending a mixture of granulated blast furnace slag, calcium sulphate, and a small amount of 33 grade ordinary Portland cement, Portland clinker, or any other lime source.
2. The mixture's dry granulated blast furnace slag component must be at least 70% by mass. The cement must be ground finer than 33 grade ordinary Portland cement, and the manufacturing method must ensure intimate blending of its constituents.
3. When tested according to the methods specified, supersulphated cement shall meet the chemical and physical requirements specified in the standard.
4. The manufacturer must ensure that the cement meets the requirements of this standard.
5. A laboratory shall be adequately maintained, in which the various tests shall be carried out according to the methods specified in the standard.
6. Packing of supersulphated Cement shall be done as per IS 6909:1990.
7. Labelling and marking shall be done in accordance with the standard.
8. The BIS Standard Mark (ISI Mark) shall be printed on each bag or drum of supersulphated Cement or on the label applied to it, provided that the material in each bag or package to which the mark is thus applied meets the specification.
9. The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark).
