INDIA IS CONSIDERING ADDING 58 CHEMICALS TO THE BIS MANDATORY LIST IN 2023

India's Department of Chemical and Petrochemicals (DCPC) had a meeting on December 22, 2022, to talk with people who are involved or interested in certain chemicals. They are thinking about making it mandatory for these 58 chemicals to have a special certification called BIS. Since 2018, they've already added 63 chemicals to this list that must have BIS certification. For 25 of these chemicals, the certification rules are already in place. But for the other 38, these rules will start in 2023.

When chemicals are on this list, anyone who makes, sells, or brings them into India has to get BIS certification. They also need to put a special mark on the packaging and labels of their products to show they meet certain quality standards.

These 58 chemicals they talked about in the meeting are controlled by something called the Rotterdam Convention, which deals with chemicals that can harm people or the environment. We'll find out more in 2023 about when these chemicals will need to follow the new quality rules.

To get BIS certification, a product must follow certain Indian standards. Manufacturers must prove that their factories, processes, quality control, and testing are up to the mark. Only after all this, they can use the special mark and sell their products in India. If you're a manufacturer or importer dealing with these certifications, Evtlindia can help you with the whole process. We are experts in certifications like BIS, so they can guide you through it smoothly.
